Surrounded by Ishikari Bay and located 60 meters above sea level, the herring palace and ryotei yuyado Ginrinsou is located in Yoichi, a prosperous herring fishing ground of Sengoku at the base of the Shakotan Peninsula in the old days.
It has a newly built open-air rock bath in the backyard overlooking the Sea of Japan, and is popular as a new sightseeing facility in Otaru with the name “Hiraiso Onsen” (Hiraiso Hot Spring).
Here we introduce the charms of Ginrinsou.

Ginrinsou is the only inn in Japan where guests can stay in an existing kipper palace.
The symbolic exterior with a watchtower on top, furnishings, and other reminders of bygone days have been modified as little as possible to enhance functionality and comfort as a ryokan.
Originally built in Yoichi on the Shakotan Peninsula as the residence of a large amimoto, the inn was established as a ryotei ryokan in 1939 when it was moved to Cape Hiraiso in Otaru.

The sound of trains and boats running on the Hakodate Main Line can sometimes be heard, as well as the calls of sea cows.
The private spring water that springs from the premises is a sodium sulfate and chloride spring, and is soft to the skin.
The baths are known for maintaining a constant water temperature no matter when you visit, despite Hokkaido’s harsh climate, and the hospitality of the staff is reflected in their desire to welcome guests in the best possible condition.
