The Oki Islands, a chain of 180 islands of various sizes, are a three-hour ferry ride from the Shimane Peninsula.
The landscape you see is one that could decay at any moment, a landscape that may not be there tomorrow.
Surrounded by these mysterious islands is Ento, the lodging base facility of the Oki UNESCO World Geopark.
Here we introduce the charm of Ento.

The Oki Islands are divided into Shimago and Shimamae by the Shimago Channel.
Ento” is located on Nakanoshima Island in Shimamae.
One of the starting points of the trip is Sakaiminato or Shichirui Port in Sakaiminato City, Shimane Prefecture, and it takes about three hours by ferry from there to the inn.
However, Ento makes you feel glad you took the time to visit the island.
The main feature of Ento is that it is a cozy hotel in harmony with the nature of Oki, but it is also a base facility of the Oki UNESCO World Geopark.
The hotel’s field concierge will provide you with all the support you need, from general guidance on Oki in general, to introductions to the sights represented by the oddly shaped rocks and arches created by the strong winds and the huge scale of the cliffs, to guided tours.
It is a one-stop shop for geo-information on Oki.

The charm of Ento is the simplicity of the hotel’s construction and interior design, which gives you a straightforward sense of Oki’s geo-location.
For example, the lounge on the first floor of NEST is casually decorated with dinosaurs and other real paleontological fossils from around the world, and there is an exhibition room called “Discover.
Visitors can learn about the origins of the earth and Oki, as well as the charms of the three Shimamae islands, so it is a good idea to study here before going out into the field.
You are guaranteed to deepen your understanding of Oki geography.
All rooms have ocean views.
Among them, we recommend the “NEST SU” in the annex.
The large wooden frames of the 93 square meter suite’s large windows form a frame on which the “Shimamae Caldera” is reflected.
Shimamae Caldera is a submerged landform that was formed approximately 6 million years ago and is one of the oldest in Japan.
The sunken part of the caldera sinks into the sea, creating a unique landscape.

The meals are original dishes using ingredients that are the pride of Oki, including Ama Town where the inn is located.
Oki beef, rock oysters, turban shells, white squids, and hondawara (Japanese Spanish mackerel) are available at …….
In addition, this course meal allows you to become familiar with local flavors such as kojoyu miso, which is used in place of soy sauce because soy sauce was hard to come by, and fukugicha, a tea made from the wood of the kuromoji tree.
For example, you can enjoy a potage using dashi from the sea, curry of turban shells, and other dishes that can only be tasted here.
