Tendoso, a traditional Japanese inn with a rich sense of taste, is built in the sukiya style, with all the buildings being one-story structures.
In particular, the detached house “Rijinkai” has a good reputation as one of the best inns in Tohoku.

It takes 3 hours from Tokyo Station by Shinkansen bullet train without changing trains.
Tendoso is located about 5 minutes by car from Tendo Station.
The beautiful exterior of the wooden, one-story Tendoso is reflected in the blue sky and mountain range in the background.
Stepping inside the inn, visitors will find a lobby with a high ceiling and a sense of openness.
The chairs and tables change with the seasons.
Above the window is a calligraphy inscribed with the words “Rijinkyo” (“border of separation from the world of dust”).
Rijinkyo” means to leave the real world behind.
It is said to express the wish for guests to experience an extraordinary world.
The harmony of the beauty of the “old” and “modern” Japan is very atmospheric.

The charm of Tendoso is that you can feel the beauty of good old Japan everywhere.
The 14 guest rooms at Tendoso consist of eight To-tei rooms, which are designed for modern lifestyles with beds and dining areas, and six Rijinkai rooms, which are detached rooms in a traditional Japanese sukiya-style building.
Of these, we recommend the Yamabuki Room.
It is a spacious room with two rooms of 11.5 and 6 tatami mats.
The garden can be seen from the veranda, and the view of the four seasons can be enjoyed from the room.
The rooms are decorated with pictures of “Yamabuki” (a Japanese bird of prey) on the banma, which is the name of the rooms in Rijinkai. The playfulness of the details is wonderful.
Nowadays, it would be difficult to create the same kind of room.
The thoughtfulness of the people at the inn has gone into every corner, and only the sentiment of the time can be felt beautifully.

Tendoso was founded as an eel restaurant in the early Meiji period.
For dinner, you can enjoy the traditional “broiled eel” which has been passed down from one generation to the next for five generations.
The master of the restaurant handles every aspect of the eel, from the handling of the eel to the grilling of the eel.
Tendoso Kaiseki” is based on Cha-kaiseki (tea-ceremony dishes) and includes seasonal Yamagata ingredients such as “Tsuyahime” and “Haenuki” rice, which are representative of Yamagata, and “Yonezawa beef,” which is one of the three most famous beef in Japan.
